'A Pup Is NOT
A Toy' is a public service initiative to coopt adults into educating
kids on the appropriate treatment and handling of young puppies.
Puppies, though they love to play and are amazing to play with, are not
toys.
They cannot
and should not be treated roughly. Puppies can be easily hurt. The one
and only goal here is to help kids understand that they have to treat
and respect a little puppy in just the same way they would a baby.
We go to
great pains to teach kids, at a young age, precepts such as: "don't talk
to strangers," "say 'please' and 'thank you'," "don't play on the
road," "don't talk when your mouth is full" etc.
To that list we have to add: 'A pup is NOT a toy, be gentle and never pick up somebody else's puppy without asking an adult.'
The only and express purpose of this initiative it to instill this message in kids far and wide. Refer to 'Monty.' Our goal is to ensure that this never happens to another poor pup.
We are hoping that achieving this goal of educating kids about pups
should not be too hard. If we can get parents to talk to their kids
about how to appropriately deal with pups we would be succeeding in our
mission. So if you could please start by talking to your kids and
explaining to them that while pups should be played with, it should
always be done with great care, affection and respect. A pup is NOT a
toy. A pup is NOT a stuffed toy or a beach ball. If a kid drops a young
pup into water assuming that the pup will float or swim that could be a
big, possibly potentially fatal, mistake. The pup might immediately
ingest water. A pup is not a beach ball.
We will provide resources and aids to help get this message across. One
objective is to have a 'A Pup is NOT A Toy' children's book that you
could read to your kids. We will also provide links to other puppy care
sites and blogs.
We already have a blog as well as Facebook page up and running. There is a forum set up but it needs to be activated. Thank you for support. Please help us with this initiative. We do not want anybody else to suffer what happened to poor Monty.
